Over the head
This is the traditional way to wear the phones. In this method, headphones with a band or bands are worn over the top of the head. Headphones which are heavy due to their design should be worn like this else they will come down.
Behind the head
This design with the headband worn behind the head is useful for portable supra-aural headphones. These headphones do not disarray one's hair and can be worn even if one chooses to wear a cap or a hat. These headphones are not good if one wants to listen to music while lying down or resting on chair with headset. This street style was popularized by Sony Music.
In this style, the earpiece is secured with a clip which wraps around the base of outer ear, very similar to eyeglass temples. It may be of extreme discomfort to people who wear eyeglasses. These headphones com with earbuds, and may also be used with supra-aural headphones or canal phones.
In this style, the earbuds and canal phones are attached to the concha of the pinnae or directly in the ear canal.
Under the chin
A rare style, especially in consumer headphones, a U-shaped tension band is suspended beneath the chin to hold transducers in the ears. It appears very similar to the design of stethoscopes.
